2025 Stony Point Baseball Tryout Info Meeting
Tryouts will begin the first day the UIL allows baseball to practice after school. This year, that day is Friday, January 17th. They will begin at 4:30 after school.
BE ON TIME. You will be expected to be there each day unless we tell you otherwise. If you must miss a tryout practice, email Coach Larson at Travis_Larson@roundrockisd.org. If you decide to “drop out” of the tryouts, please email me to let us know so we can remove your name from our list.
Where:
We will perform tryouts at Stony Point High School, primarily at the baseball field. Some of our tryout activities may be planned for some of the surrounding areas, but you will report to the location the coach described at the end of the previous evening for the day’s tryout.
On Friday, January 17 th , we will meet on the blacktop behind the portables to run 60s and get this year’s tryouts started.
How Long:
Tryouts will last about 2 1/2 hours daily. We will make every effort to have tryout players off the field by 7:00 on school nights. Tryouts will be in full swing on Saturday, January 18 st , so plans should be made to be available on that day. Start time for that day will be shared on the first day of tryouts. As far as the number of days of tryouts, it may vary from player to player. Tryouts will last as long as it takes for our coaches to make a decision about the player’s ability to fit into our program at this time.
We will make every effort to give each player a fair chance to demonstrate his skills, desire, potential, etc. on the field at this time. Again weather may force our tryout plans to change. We will not make decisions based upon performance in summer ball or recommendations from summer coaches.
Uniform:
You should come to tryouts dressed like a baseball player. That means wearing baseball pants, cleats, a baseball hat, and a long sleeve undershirt. In addition to your cleats, you should bring flat soled shoes in which you could participate in an activity on the blacktop or track. We will not complain about the color of these items until we have handed them out to you. We will not hand these items out until you have made one of our teams. If you do not have one or any of these items, do not buy them just to try out. We will allow you to tryout as long as what you are wearing is safe. The items we mentioned above are those that most baseball players have, even if they are from last year or last summer.
Equipment:
You are responsible for your glove, hat, and cleats. We will provide baseballs, bats, catcher’s gear, and helmets. You may use your own bat as long as it meets national high school federation standards (Bats must be BBCOR certified). Be sure your name is clearly marked on all of your equipment. We recommend that you do NOT go out and buy new equipment prior to making one of the teams.
BandApp: In order to receive updates about tryouts, you need to sign up for my BandApp group. https://band.us/home Group is: SPHS Baseball tryouts 25.
Physicals: ALL PLAYERS MUST HAVE A PHYSICAL AND OTHER REQUIRED
